ASPEN, Colo. - Hunter S. Thompson, the acerbic counterculture writer who popularized a new form of fictional journalism in books like "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," fatally shot himself Sunday night at his home, his son said. He was 67.

Why would he kill himself NOW? I mean, he's already old. Do you think it's to punctuate his legacy or that he really wanted to die? You know how strange that man is...

i dunno. i wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that he was terminally ill. with all the chemicals that man ingested, one never knows.

Wow! Hard to pass any judgement not knowing the circumstances. Another voice I will miss along with Spaulding Gray who also took his own life.
